Then protest music vs Now protest music

Bob Dylan -The times they are a changin, the meaning of this song is saying Get ready and be prepared for change. A change is coming whether you like  it or not. It's like saying tomorrow will be here whether you are ready for it to come or not. When we die, time moves on,and the world keeps turning. The style of Bob Dylan's music is more than mumbling words off key, it's a style of singing that Bob Dylan chose to use on purpose.

John Mayer- Waiting on the world to change, The meaning of the song is He is against the war in Iraq, however, the song  is warning us not to always be so fast to accept  what the media says about the war and government and all the negativity in it. It's about people who know that the government is wrong, and the war is wrong, and want to help people, but feel helpless because we can't talk as loud as the media and all the money. We want to help change the world but we don't know how, so "we keep on waiting on the world to change".

John Mayer and Bob Dylan are very similar when it comes to protest politically they use their music to get their messages across. Even though Dylan prefers more of a talking/singing type of music while Mayer has more of a rhythm and blues feeling to his music.

What is Un American

What exactly is un-American? Who are we to say what is and what is not "American". Something that we would say is un-American is things such as communism , and religion which are true. Us as Americans though have no right to say what is and what is not because we have no type of culture. There are many races in this country and they bring their culture here. So basically it is a mixture of different cultures so we can not say that it un-American because in reality WE HAVE NOTHING.

Our country needs to contradicting its self because what we don't like we call it un_American but everything in America is un-American so that makes up major hypocrites. You know what is American though? in my opinion whatever we don't like we destroy and we bully other countries because we have power and we can get whatever we want.

Changes in America during great depression

When the Great Depression hit America it hit it HARD. Everything went wrong business where making any sales, the stock market was horrible the whole economic world was crumbling. People lost mostly everything , they became unemployed so they could barely support their families. So a lot of people went broke and became homeless. People who could not pay their rent  created shacks of tar paper and whatever scraps of metal they could find these were called hoovervilles. The Great Depression came to an end during World War II. It ended due to the new jobs created for building weapons and all the soldiers that needed to go and fight. At the end of World War II the United States became the most powerful country.

Imperialism today is not often quite as blatent as it was in the past

Examples of imperialism today is bullying, Kids trying to take advantage of other kids because they are smaller and weaker. Taking away their pride and self respect by beating you or humiliating you.
Rasicm is also another type of imperialism trying to take advantage of another race because you think they are inferior and below them so they treat them like dirt.

Anjother type of imperialism is economic imperialism which a huge corporation  such as Google buys out a less richer company such as Apple but they suck so Google will not bother . But the point is that the bigger company will take over and use thier resources for the own benefit without sharing the income with them.

So Imperialsim back then is not really different from the different ttypes of imperialsim we have today , their is npothing different imperialism is imperialism.

1930's Reflection

The 1930's was a much simpler time back then. I recently did some research on my school before it was actually my school. It was William Penn high for girls, I read some of their dreams and achievements. They were different then the dreams my generation have now. I would say they thought '' inside the box'' they wanted to become things like a mother of twelve and other weird things. There was nothing complicated really in that era.
It would be VERY difficult for me back then because the technology was horrible to me there were no cell phones how am I supposed to text?!? or even go on Youtube we all love us some Youtube.

What I like about that era though is the fast paced music and the dances. The moves such as the Charleston chew are moves we today just give them a different name and twist. These kind of things were the foundation to build up something more.

Billie Holiday "Don't Explain"

Billie Holidays song don't explain is about her man doing whatever he wants and she still wants him. She does not care what he has done in the past. She just loves him no matter what. She tells him not to explain anything he has did even though she knows he cheated. She says that he is her join and pain. She basically says they that belong together. This song is similar to Mariah Carey's "We belong together". The song is about her not caring about what anyone says just like Billie Holiday. For instance she said "when you left i lost a part of me ,she felt empty inside meaning she needed him and he needed her.
